A note from Indi

A garden is more than a lawn and a hedge. We pay attention to the soil, plants and seasons, helping each garden grow and thrive.

Hi, I'm Indi. I started Saunders Garden Services to look after gardens the way I'd want my own looked after: with patience, with proper tools, and with an instinct for how each plant fits into the garden.

Mowing matters and so does timing, so we listen to the rhythm of the seasons and pay attention to what's growing in the borders, what the hedges are sheltering, and which of the wildflowers you might like to keep.

I'm RHS, City & Guilds and NPTC qualified, with a Level 3 in Wildflower Identification and Use (also known as Ethnobotany), and I'm a registered member of The Gardeners Guild.

I work alongside trusted local gardeners, while remaining responsible for the overall standard and finish. All the gardeners that I work with have references and are fully insured. We work across Eastbourne, Polegate, Willingdon and the surrounding villages, offering regular maintenance rounds, one-off tidy ups or garden advice.

If you've inherited a garden that's run wild, if you don't know where to start, or you simply want someone reliable to keep things looking good, I'd love to hear from you.

What we do

Six things we do well, and nothing we don't.

Practical gardening, thoughtful improvements and straightforward advice.

We are not landscapers that also do some gardening. We're gardeners. So we say no to projects we'd do worse than someone else, and yes to the work we love.

All our services are practical and wildlife-friendly, with attention paid to timing, soil and the needs of the plants themselves.

01

Wildlife-friendly garden maintenance

Reliable visits by a trustworthy gardener to keep gardens healthy, tidy and manageable. All garden care included- from lawns and borders to seasonal pruning and hedge maintenance, we help established gardens stay at their best. Suitable for: homeowners, communal gardens and anyone who wants dependable help keeping on top of things.

02

Garden improvements

We can set out and install planting schemes, refresh containers, rearrange borders, relocate plants.

03

One-off garden tidies

Bringing gardens back under control. Whether you've inherited an overgrown garden, need a hedge cut, or simply want a seasonal tidy up, we carry out one-off jobs with straightforward quotes and no surprise extras. Typical work includes hedge cutting, shrub pruning, border weeding, mowing and strimming.

04

Mature garden resets

We can restore mature gardens that have become difficult to manage with careful tidy ups that protect existing planting. We always check for wildlife before we begin.

05

Garden development

We collaborate with garden owners on one off or ongoing projects to develop their gardens. Ask us about pollinator-friendly borders, no-spray weed management and mulching, bulb and woodland layer planting and wildflowers.

06

Practical garden planning & coaching

We help garden owners understand and improve their space. Our range of practical planning and advice sessions help you avoid costly mistakes, understand what you've inherited, and make informed decisions about your plants, borders and layout.

Not sure which of these fits what you want done? Send me a photo of the garden and I'll tell you what I'd suggest, no obligation.

The specialism

Once you have a plan, the rest falls into place.

A professional gardener, helping you make sense of your garden

New to gardening? Taken on a mature garden and don't know where to start? Planning a new border, lawn project or wildlife-friendly improvements?

Whether you've just moved in, inherited a mature garden or simply want some guidance, we can help you understand your space and make sensible decisions about what comes next.

These sessions are part walk-round, part discussion and part hands-on demonstration. They are designed to help garden owners understand what they have, what needs doing first and what can wait.

Together we look at the plants, soil, lawns and seasonal tasks that matter most to you, helping you avoid costly mistakes and feel more confident about your garden.

Sessions can cover
  • Plant and border planning
  • Seasonal tasks and timing
  • Lawn improvement projects
  • Wildlife-friendly gardening
  • Wildflowers and woodland
  • Choosing suitable plants
  • Shade and difficult areas
  • Pruning and timing
  • Avoiding costly mistakes

Sessions are delivered personally by Indi and focus on practical, real-world approaches rather than complicated plans or technical drawings. Many customers choose to follow up with a seasonal or annual check-in visit as their gardens develop.

We don't offer specialist surveys, technical drawings or formal garden design. Instead, we focus on practical ways to help people understand, improve and enjoy their gardens.

Whether you decide to carry out the work yourself, ask another contractor to do it, or invite us back to help, you'll feel much more confident about the way forward.

Most people don't quite know what to expect from a planning session until they've had one. Afterwards, things just seem to click into place.

4.8★ average across 15 reviews. A few of the long ones:

After seeing the fantastic work that Indi did for my neighbour, I asked her to come and help with my mum's garden as it's quite a lot to manage. She did, and continues to do, a fantastic job and is so knowledgeable about her trade. Not only is she great at what she does and a fountain of knowledge, she's also lovely and so hard working. Gets so much done in the time allotted that it's a big difference every visit.

Case study

A wildflower meadow, a year on.

We received this message from a customer, who we had helped with developing a plan for a wildflower meadow. We later assisted them with installing a 40m² wildflower meadow, using native seed mixes.

We thought you might like to see some photos of the stunning wild flower bed. The photos don't really do it justice... we have a staggering amount of bees and a lovely variety of butterflies. Only cabbage whites last year but we have already seen meadow blues and Tortoiseshell butterflies

Most of our work now comes from these reviewers' neighbours. That's how we'd rather grow.

About Indi

Trained in horticulture and ethnobotany. Insured. Local. Reliable.

Indi Saunders is a qualified horticulturist with a Level 3 in Wildflower Identification and Use (also called Ethnobotany), NPTC Level 2, NVQ Level 2 and an RHS background. Saunders Garden Services has been working across Eastbourne since early 2023, and now runs a maintenance round of regular clients, alongside one-off projects and planning sessions.

Indi is supported by her trusted team of local gardeners. The team's a small one, on purpose. We'd rather know your garden by name than rush through fifteen jobs a day. We turn up when we say we will, leave the place tidier than we found it, and we'll talk you through what we did before we go.
